The CORGI gas safety registration
scheme has been replaced
by a new “Gas Safe Register”.
Maintained and enforced by the
Health and Safety Executive, it will
be the official industry stamp for
gas safety.
Janice Northover, Partner
in Davenport Lyons’ Property
Department, advises agents
and landlords to check that
anyone carrying out work on gas appliances or flues is registered
under the new Gas Safe Register.
“There has been little publicity
about the Gas Safe Register so
landlords and managing agents
may be surprised to learn about
the changes and that they are
happening so soon, CORGI
registration will no longer carry any
statutory force,” she warns. “There
is no grace period so landlords and
managing agents should act now.”
In the commercial sector,
landlords and employers should
check that any installer of gas
appliances or flues is registered
under the Gas Safe Register. Those
with long term contracts to carry
out gas safety inspections and
maintenance should check that
their contractor is registered under
the new scheme. From 1 April
records of the engineer’s new
registration will have to be kept.
