Caroline Spelman (Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Communities and Local Government; Meriden, Conservative) asked the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government how much funding has been allocated to each local authority under the Repossessions Prevention Fund.

John Healey (Minister of State (Housing), Department for Communities and Local Government; Wentworth, Labour) replied that: “Allocations have been made to local authorities from the Preventing Repossessions Fund based on population and levels of repossession activity. A list of allocations to individual authorities has been placed in the House Library. The fund enables local authorities to extend small interest-free loans of up to £5,000 to families at risk of homelessness through repossession or eviction. Detailed terms are set at local level.

"In the current economic conditions, we have acted rapidly to put in place help and support for households struggling with their mortgage at every stage: from free debt advice when problems start, to free support for cases that reach court. Advice is available to all households struggling with their mortgage, with targeted schemes for those in most need.”

There is no record of Caroline Spelman’s view of this answer.
