Property specialists Savills are
to revive what was, for 30 years,
the most keenly contested
angling award in Scotland. The
renamed The Savills Malloch
Trophy has been established
by the River Tay’s Charitable
Foundation to promote the
conservation of large salmon
and catch and release
programmes on all Scottish
rivers.
By reputation, it is set to
once again be ‘the’ coveted
award for any river, ghillie and
rod to win. Anglers have been
fishing throughout the 2009
season in the hope of catching
the heaviest salmon. Fish over
20lbs may be contenders for
the Savills Malloch Trophy and
all fish to be considered for the
Award must have been safely
returned in order to qualify.
Savills Director, Roddy Willis
said, “As managers of some two
million acres of rural property
across the UK, and specialists in
all types of rural sporting activity,
Savills is all too aware of the
pressing need to protect the
natural environment, and future
salmon stocks in particular. We
are confident that this iconic
competition will be a powerful
means of promoting voluntary
catch and release.”
Nice trophy, but not sure we’d
throw a 20-pounder back...
