Have you seen
the new TV
Rightmove
advert? The
one with the
estate agents
gathering, like elephants,
around a watering hole? Its
clearly designed to encourage
the public to visit the
Rightmove portal because that
is where the animals are. Or
rather, the professional agents.
It might look funny, it might
be slightly offensive to estate
agents, but Rightmove say
that it gave them – and their
estate agent advertisers a
record day of site traffic on
Monday 4 January. Over 25
million page impressions were
served, toppling the previous
record set in August 2009 of
22.5m. The views were driven
by over 12.5 million property
searches from home-hunters
as property returned to the top
of the agenda following the
festive break.
Commercial Director Miles
Shipside (pictured) said, “It’s
too early to say if the record
traffic is a portent of a further
uplift in the market for 2010,
but it is an encouraging sign.
Many of the potential buyers
searching will also be sellers
and these people are unlikely
to have their properties on the
market yet. This offers a great
opportunity for the agents
who stand out and offer the
best service to snaffle up
potential sellers early.”
The Rightmove advert is
aimed at potential sellers
researching their local market
on site and encourages them
to use the expertise of an
agent once they come to sell
their property.
