The BBC seems to be maintaining its offensive on estate agents. Its latest report (August 5th) on property wrongdoings focused on large agencies pressurising applicants to arrange their finance through their in-house or connected mortgage broker.

Once again the Beeb cited Foxtons as major users of these tactics, but the IFA featured in the report said mortgage mis-selling by large agents was "prolific". Potential buyers interviewed by the BBC (while playing snakes and ladders) said that they had been asked to use the agent's broker and advised that their purchase would be much smoother than if they found the mortgage themselves - even if they already had one arranged.
